Clothes prep – tell me what you do

So the other day we were chatting in the office.

I think it started because it was cool or hot and one of my colleagues was dressed either too summery or too wintery.

Whatever.

We asked her about it and she said, “this was the outfit for today”.

Of course my ears perk up and I started interrogating gently questioning her.

She chooses full outfits for Monday to Thursday (we have casual day on Fridays) complete with handbags and jewellery on a Sunday, for the week ahead.

And then arranges them in a specific place within her wardrobe. She took a pic to show me but hasn’t sent me the jpg.

The funny thing is I was watching the other ladies as she was talking and some of them were twitching – it was way too structured for them. LOL

I choose my clothes the evening before as part of my evening routine.

I have to know the next day’s weather before I can choose clothes, you see.

One person said she thinks about what she wants to wear while in the shower and yet another said she first showers and then goes to her wardrobe, decides what takes her fancy and then dresses.

I love all the variety in thinking and organising styles.

What does your clothes prep look like?

  1. It all happens at night. I select and iron it and in case of a weather change I always have a long-sleeved top in the car or in my bag. I insist that my husband and sons do the same. We are all too bleary-eyed to be selecting clothing in the mornings…

  2. I actually don’t choose my clothes until I am actually getting dressed. I think it is because I don’t really have enough clothes to cause a major issue with choosing what to wear.

  3. I try to find something clean. Generally I pick whatever is on top of the pile of clean laundry that I’ve procrastinated putting away.

  4. I have a slightly weird way. I have my favorite clothes catalogs in one of my drawers. Then I look at one of the pages to give me a jump start on what to wear. I may choose the style of top, or pick out a scarf like the picture, or use the color scheme. I have a small wardrobe and getting ideas from the catalogs helps me be more creative with my outfits.

For example today’s page had a black and white checked dress and a headband. Which turned into a black skirt, cream shirt and black ponytail contraption for me.

  5. When I was working I would stand in front of the cupboard and decide that morning – depending on my mood! Some days are just fat days and then I want lots of comfort.

At the moment I do the same thing – I have a few smart outfits that I put on for days I see clients but if I am at home its my yoga pants and a comfy top šŸ™‚

I am all for planning like that – David does it to a degree but I also need a little flexibility to be able to change it and be ok with that!

  6. I do not think so far ahead of what I will be wearing. My mood changes a lot, so I bath after my workout in the morning and then go stand in front of my closet and decided what I will be wearing that day. According to what my mood is.
Fridays is also casual day here at our office, then I always wear a long bootleg jean with casual top.

  7. When I was still working I woould decide the night before and have it ready for the morning. I could never do a whole week in advance a) the weather in CT was far too temperamental and b) what if i didn’t *feel* like wearing it on the chosen day?

Now because i’m at home i spend my days in 3/4 pants, t’s and pretty blouses – and i pick whatever I feel like when I wake up. If’ i’m going to town/EL then i put a little more thought into it, but if i’m just at home i’m not too fussed.

  8. I usually plan the night before after having watched the weather forecast. I don’t have much clothing anyway so it doesn’t take long, especially when my “to wash” and “to iron” piles are high! LOL

  9. Jessica Brown says

The part that sounds rigid is not altering the plan after you check out the weather report!
